Echostage was lively as usual Saturday night with masses of carpools and buses unloading groups of people who came out to the Armin Van Buuren Intense Album Tour date in Washington DC. Armin never fails to bring out his huge ASOT following who will show up early and stay until the very last beat.
Jaz Von D played an entertaining opening set until around midnight when the lights went off and the music was lowered until the intro song begins that Armin took the stage to, with a roar from the crowd and one out of every two people there taking a video on their phone.
Armin wasted no time getting right into his set playing one of my favorite songs, D# Fat, right after the intro and going from there. He also played a few other crowd favorites like Walter White by Above and Beyond during his trance centered 3+ hour set.
There were a lot of things that made this night great at Echostage, there were the great visuals that Armin brought. The faces of people singing would be larger than life on the screen and there would be lyrics spelled out for others.
There was also a ton of smoke, lasers, streamers and towards the end, confetti. I’m not saying these things make a great show, but while you are at a great show they definitely add to the environment. Some of the streamers got stuck in the hexagons on the ceiling with every blast so by the end there was a sort of accidental streamer chandelier in the middle of the venue high above the crowd.
The best part of the night had to be when Armin described how great it felt to be performing after several cancelled dates and shows.
After his epic show at Echostage going past 3 a.m. and then closing the main stage at the last day of TomorrowWorld in the same day he should be feeling like himself again.
