Last Wednesday, Australian-based producing-duo Carmada serenaded our ears for a diverse and exciting evening at Flash.

Carmada, who is comprised of  L D R U and Yahtzel, played a wide variety of genres throughout their 2.5 hour musical journey, their chemistry throughout the night really showed. From old school funk (such as the legendary “Be Faithful” by Fatman-Scoop), to some future house, there were tons of original future beats– along with some soulful trap, and even a bit of moombahton! Truly, a full night of non-stop dance floor stomping beats.

The music was on point the entire night, starting with local producer Basscamp who had the direct opening spot for Carmada. This kind of local-meets-global line-up is just one more signal that Flash has really found its stride as a late-night go-to venue, booking global talent, while also cultivating the stars of tomorrow. At the end of the night, Flash-ers are the biggest winners. Hopefully we all remember to say “I saw them at Flash back in the day” after one of our locals hits it big.

Right now, Flash attracts the right people who are all just there for the same reasons: to dance and enjoy some great music. With a sound system that rivals and (maybe even sweeps?) the lauded U Street Music Hall, it’s easy for Flash to become your new favorite place to shake it.

And don’t let us forget a shout out to the Proper Vibes takeover downstairs before the show. It was a great time too! There is no shortage of dance music in the District, even on a Wednesday.

After the show, I talked outside with Carmada, and they were such approachable, awesome guys who appreciated the environment here in D.C.  They will continue to tour around the United States until May. This summer, they will return to Australia for an EP release tour (and then hopefully make the trip back here!). Kudos to Flash and Nu Androids for putting together an amazing night of music — with many more to come.
