Laidback Luke kicked off the second night of his three-city Super You & Me at DC’s Echostage. One of the most hyped pre-Halloween bashes in DC and billed as, “an adventure of a lifetime”, on Luke’s website, Saturday night was exactly that. Luke, dressed in the iconic purple cape sporting DJ superhero, was joined by Moska as Captain America, Henrix as the Tooth Fairy, and Gladiator paying homage to Breaking Bad. The October 26th party was part of Luke’s Musically Driven Fall North America Tour, with Henrix and Gladiator as special guests for the evening.
Colombian DJ/Electronic Producer Moska crushed the opening with an hour long set, and was followed up by the Miami-based Henrix, who came out as the drinking, gold glittered, ghetto tooth fairy and played a solid 90 minute set.
A superstar in the EDM scene, Luke was amping up fans with crowd pleasers such as, “Bounce”, “Dirty Talk”, Eve and Gwen Stefani’s “Blow Your Mind”, and Alvaro’s “Welcome to the Jungle”. Luke made the night with his animated onstage antics and high energy set. LCD screens played super hero animations on the screens as huge life-size versions of superheroes hung on the ceiling.
Luke was followed up by late night 90-minute set with Gladiator, who came on stage wearing yellow HAZMAT suits honoring AMC’s Breaking Bad. Gladiator went all out starting with the Breaking Bad theme song and getting into tracks like “Earthquake”and “Bubble Butt” with the recognizable “Fools Gold” sample going off.
Everything about Saturday’s show was quality- the stage, the sound, and the few hundred Laidback Luke Foam L’s that said “Throw Up Your Double ‘L” that made it much more of a personalized show.
