He’s a writer, he’s an artist, but Lyrx is Not A Rapper. Or, at least, that’s what his first album declares.
Lyrx, or locally-based-wildly-talented-non-rapper Cameron Kaminski, has been releasing singles months apart to build up to the big unveiling of his first album, “Not A Rapper.” And it’s a complete and original way of introducing himself to fans, and connect with listeners who are hearing his words for the first time.
Yes, he does rap, but through his music you learn how being labeled a rapper comes with snap judgements that he doesn’t want to cloud people’s perspective with. As he describes through his own words on Facebook, he thinks anyone that listens to the album will find something that they can connect with:
“LISTEN to what’s coming. Because I guarantee you will have felt the same way at times in your life. ‘Rap’ isnt about hoes and money, its rhythm and peotry (sic)…”
Each song on the album has a different producer behind it, thus each track is a new creation rounding out the 11-track release. The first three singles have already received a ton of traction on Soundcloud and other music blogs, but now that the full album is available, you now get the full picture — this is everything Lyrx has been devoting his time and effort to.
Check out the the track “New Dawn.” It has something special about it, with an element that you don’t hear very much– just raw emotion! Frill-free, Lyrx still has something to prove unlike other producers who have already ‘made it.’ And he’s using the opportunity to finally share his talent by packing “Not a Rapper” with goods from beginning to end.
Complete with an interlude, and a vast array of beats layering until his vocals, Lyrx has done what some work their entire careers for: a full and polished reflection of himself at this point in time.
In the same way Lyrx is not a rapper, we are not a fan. Get it? Go take a listen:
