Only 48 hours before Christmas day, and Porter Robinson was taking over the tables at Echostage for Audien, who had just finished an impressive opening set.
Porter Robinson went right to work on stage with his signature set of electro banger after banger, keeping the crowd energized for whatever could be next. Porter had the entire crowd dancing and singing the few lyrics when he played originals like his track “Say My Name”.
Porter Robinson plays the kind of electro set I really enjoy, with build ups from older songs like Justice’s “Genesis”, and Deadmau5’s “Strobe” right into new bangers like a trap remix of “Satisfaction” I was previously unaware of and Knife Party’s “Destroy them with Lazers.”
Cosmic Gate kept the majority of the crowd there dancing during their entire set following Porter Robinson. This is one of my favorite things about Echostage, they do not shut down at 2 am when they have to stop serving alcohol. Many shows at Echostage go until 4 am, and Washington D.C. has been in need of a venue like that. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to me and everyone else who had been waiting for a place like this and got it in 2012.
