With Moonrise Festival less than a week away, it’s not often that we see our area with a festival line up as a big as Moonrise. We all want to see Bassnectar and Kaskade, but the Moonrise lineup is so deep that you will want to be there both days from open to close. We want to see every artist’s set this weekend, but that just isn’t possible, so here are the 10 acts we are most excited to see in Baltimore again or for the first time. Glow & Steez went above and beyond for this year’s festival, so don’t miss a beat.
Bro Safari
Baltimore loves Bro Safari, he is one of those artists that always stops in the area and sells the place out! The Animal House Tour came through Soundstage last December and Soundstage went wild. Bro Safari definitely knows how to put on a show. His Diplo & Friends mix is one of the best ones out there, and his live performance is top notch. Bro Safari is on our top list of acts to see at Moonrise Festival.
Michael Brun
This Haitian producer & DJ has been tackling the scene with his killer melodic records. Just browse his Soundcloud page and you might need a box of tissues. If you thought that groovy progressive house was dead, Mr. Brun will prove you wrong. In terms of comparison he has the soul of Kaskade. His music is so emotional and deep that he will take you on a beautiful journey. Dirty South brought him under his wing and released several of his records on Phazing Records. Michael Brun has been flying around the World playing the best venues, and festivals such as Coachella, Ultra Music Festival and coming soon to his list, Moonrise.
Mr. Carmack
Soulection, a label and radio show based out of San Francisco have been doing amazing things. Their roster is filled with talented artists like Hawaiian producer & DJ Mr. Carmack. He seems to have no boundaries, browsing through his Soundcloud will surely have you dancing, wherever you are. And with several new amazing releases just last week, his set at Moonrise is going to be unforgettable.
Djemba Djemba
Djemba Djemba is still one of the most underrated artists in the industry. You might have caught his set on Boiler Room and Diplo & Friends once or heard some of his record on Mad Decent. Djemba Djemba is flying under the radar but we are here to let you know that you have to pay attention this DJ & Producer. He is getting his records played by everyone in the business and is a treat to see live playing his own.
Des McMahon
Des McMahon is an extremely talented Producer & DJ, his edginess in his music and live sets is what makes him stand apart from other artists. He is such a versatile DJ that he has no limitations to what he produces and plays. We are always impressed by his performances and you can expect the same from Des at Moonrise.
DJ Snake
DJ Snake aka Mr. Turn Down For What is the French DJ that has been on a hot streak for the past year. His record titled “Bird Machine” on Mad Decent exploded his career. Not to mention, Turn Down For What is one of the most played records today, you can’t go anywhere without hearing someone saying those four words. DJ Snake will definitely be turning up at Moonrise.
GTA
GTA is a deadly duo comprised of Matt & Julio. These two producers from Miami have been making records in everything from moombahton to house to trap. Their songs are supported by big names like Diplo, Kill The Noise, Excision, Calvin Harris and Nadastrom, they were even recently on tour with Rihanna. The dynamic between Matt & Julio is so fluid that these guys make their live shows very entertaining to watch. If you find a festival this year without them on the bill, it is because a bigger festival already had them booked, and Moonrise Festival this weekend is that festival!
Beltway Banditz
Beltway Banditz are composed of Jaleel, Johnny Diaz and Shawn Lucas. Within their own ranks, these guys are infamous. They have been playing all around the DMV and Baltimore area from the smallest venues to the biggest clubs. Moonrise will definitely be special from them, fresh off of playing Big Dub Festival this previous weekend, you can imagine that they will be playing their heart out.
Rebecca & Fiona
The industry is male dominated, but there are breakout females and it is refreshing that they are capable to stand out. Rebecca & Fiona are from Sweden so it’s no surprise that they are beautiful, but these ladies are more than looks. They are putting on massive sets all over the place and we are excited to see them for the first time at Moonrise Festival.
Carnage
We need a moment of silence to recognize how far this MD artist has come. Besides Logic and Wale, DJ Carnage is hottest act from this area. Carnage’s rise to fame has been unreal. We remember seeing him playing at U Street Music Hall two years ago, then he came to 9:30 Club and sold that out. And a few weeks ago, he sold out Echostage, the biggest nightclub in Washington D.C. and #19 on the top clubs in the world! He released his first single Bricks with Migos off his new album a few weeks ago, so we all can expect a lot of great things from him during his Moonrise set.
