In the plaza that usually is the scene of tuxedos and limousines, the Kennedy Center has transformed for an interactive exhibit celebrating the intersection of skater culture and the arts. “Finding a Line: Skateboarding, Music and Media” is a free, all-ages event running from Sept 4 – 13, with plenty of live music to compliment the sound of wheels grinding on rails and clacking on plywood.
Last Monday, Labor Day was also sPACYcLOUd Day at “Finding a Line.” The Skate Girls Tribe were co-hosts, supporting a unifying atmosphere and sporting original designs as they shredded the bowl, ramps, and rails set up across the front plaza of the Kennedy Center. The message was simple: join in and have fun. Girls in tutus, sponsored professionals, and parents passing on their love for skating to their littlest ones, all came together on the last day of the long weekend to learn from each other and show off at one of D.C.’s iconic landmarks.
It’s a fantastic D.C.-centric exhibit and comes at a perfect time while the weather starts to slowly transition from swamp summer to pleasant fall. With an indoor art show, more than 15 live bands and DJs on the schedule, and tons of demos, you still have the chance (through Sunday) to rub elbow-pads with both pros and local supporters alike!
