The Chainsmokers came to Echostage this past weekend, the year that “selfie” was added to the Merriam Webster English dictionary, but it was earlier this year that their song “Selfie” was added to our list of permanent brainworms. We still can’t escape their perfect parody of what has become a hobby of so many tweeples hashtagging their lives for the world to see — but before we continue, Lemme take a self– ok, you get it.
All in attendance at Echostage before The Chainsmokers took the stage, had the opportunity to witness the stellar performance by Ansel Elgort, better known now as Ansolo. He took the crowd through a set of one banger after another, setting the bar high for the night ahead. While he played a host of his own remixes to popular anthems, Ansolo highlighted some of his production capabilities by debuting his brand new track, “Shadow” which pushed the speakers the loudest they had been thus far. The Chainsmokers even had to give Ansolo massive amounts of props as they later said they were quite shocked. To them, yes, Ansolo really is an awesome DJ. We want more Ansolo too!
While we expected to see bros representing all of the major universities in the area at the show, what wasn’t expected was the ferociousness of The Chainsmokers would blast their eardrums with. They showcased their musical diversity as they remixed everything from Porter Robinson’s newly-released “Lionhearted” to 311’s anthem, “Amber.” It was especially awesome to witness the energy level skyrocket through Echostage as “Work” by ASAP Ferg blasted from the decks, which then transitioned seamlessly to “Kanye” during Kanye’s verse. The explosive crowd reaction really was an experience, especially when all of the large-than-life Homer Simpson-bitten doughnuts made their way into the crowd. The duo dubbed the night one of the best of the summer.
